It’s always a privilege and an honour to be asked to play at the Gawsworth Remembrance Parade and service. 9th November 2025 was the seventh time we have taken part.
The service, led by the ministers of the Parish Church of St. James the Great and the Methodist Chapel, is always well attended by the villagers and parishioners. Also present were representatives of the village community groups: children from Gawsworth Primary School; children, officers and volunteers with the Cubs, Scouts, and Girls Brigade; the Women’s Institute and Rupert Richards of Gawsworth Hall.
We played the hymns “Oh God Our Help in Ages Past” and ”I Vow to thee My Country” with the crowd in good voice. It is always very poignant when all the names of the fallen from Gawsworth are read out; some of these families still live in the village. A lone trumpeter played the Last Post, with the 2-minute silence being respectfully observed. To round off, Macclesfield Brass played the National Anthem.
The Women's Institute kindly served refreshments in the Scout Hut where players and attendees mixed and mingled afterwards. With 25 players turning out for the band, we produced our best sound yet. We had so many lovely comments from local people saying how much they appreciated our playing and taking part.
