History

Macclesfield Brass held its first rehearsal at Morton Hall on 20th January 2016. Everything was in place: our founding musical director Liz Hudson, rehearsal premises, music, instruments ... we just weren't sure how many people would turn up! But come they did, with the band growing steadily in numbers to reach over 30 players by the end of 2018.

After performing in public nine times in its first year, the band took the giant leap in 2018 of hiring a coach and performing in the Whit Friday Marches, made famous by the film "Brassed Off". This has become a regular highlight of our year, and indeed in 2022 - after the pandemic - we were the first band for three years to perform at the iconic Delph venue.

We have expanded our musical repertoire steadily over the years to include not only traditional brass band marches, but also a range of pop, classical and jazz numbers of varying degrees of difficulty, not to mention our regular Christmas portfolio of carols and favourite seasonal hits.

We are now in our ninth year, working with our second musical director, and in our fourth rehearsal venue. With a full range of sections, and supported on occasion by a band of talented deputies, we continue go from strength to strength!
